I was at a garage getting my car fixed when I heard the news of the attacks in London.
All I could hear were air pumps and some kind of contraption making loud noises in the background while I saw images of a blown up bus and graphics of the four targets of the London Underground. All I could think of was, London won the vote to host the 2012 Olympics and then this happens - is it connected? Was it al-Qaida? Was it the IRA? Actually what happened? I didn’t get the details because I couldn’t hear the news with all the racket in the background. For a moment I felt 9/11 all over again, just by the visual coverage of the attacks. The graphics of the word ATTACK and TERROR ALERT is cause for a 9/11 rehash.
But none of the mechanics or the attendents seem at all concerned, going about their day fixing the cars.
I later learned it was a well organized plan, the detinations were timed and no suicide bombers…what does that mean? London seemed so jaded by the attacks that the news reporters repeatedly tell us how unphased the people were about the event - was it a kind of preparedness or was it expected, did the government know about it already and wasn’t able to do anything except be prepared?
However, in NYC and around the states security hightened and we were on Level Orange Alert. The security seemed very sophisticated, but for some reason I never felt so irked. It was strange, rather than feeling safe I felt a nauseating compulsion to barf. I don’t recall quite well, but how did NYC react when the Madrid attacks occured?
All you could see and hear on the news was London, Hurricane Dennis and T.S. Cynthia.
What a way to tie their stories… man made terror v.s. nature’s terrors.
I am just rambling on now. It’s 1:40 AM…insomnia for no reason just rambling some thoughts.
Tell me - what do ya’ll think about?
